merry christmas to me [insert eye roll here]

I've been absent for a few days. Why? Because Friday morning I ended up in the er, and Sunday morning I had my gall bladder taken out.

Oh, what fun it is to ride on a gurney to surgery!

I've been having back pain, sometimes mirrored in my chest, since the Little Mister was born in June. At first I figured I just pulled something during delivery, and that it would go away. It didn't go away...but it only happened once or twice a month and only lasted an hour or two, so I didn't worry too much. In late November it started getting worse--once or twice a week. I saw a doctor in early December, but because it was during the day and not during a night attack the doctor could only guess at the problem. Turns out her diagnosis (muscle spasms) was quite wrong. But I can't fault her--when she examined me I didn't have any symptoms!

Anyway, Friday morning at 1:00 am I woke up to another attack. Only this one didn't go away. Around 8:00 the Sergeant took me to the clinic, and they promptly sent us to the er. They did some tests and found a very irritated gall bladder. They admitted me to the hospital for some rest and antibiotics (and no food!!) and removed the offensive organ early Sunday morning. Most patients don't have to stay at the hospital for more than a few hours after surgery, but I was part of the minority; my pain was out of control, so I had to stay. *sigh*

Perhaps the hardest part was being away from the Little Mister for so long. He visited Saturday afternoon, but I couldn't cuddle him. Couldn't even hold him. Now (Monday) I'm home, home for his first Christmas!, but I still can't hold him or feed him or anything. Thankfully the Sergeant is on leave this week, so I can recover without worrying about the baby. Our trip to Switzerland is off...but such is life.

So. I'm not sure how much I'll be posting (or reading other blogs) this week. I'm still extremely sore, and healing is top priority. I won't disappear forever, though!

Merry Christmas!!

  1. glad you are home. I wanted to call you yesterday (thanks for having your mom call and give me an update!) but when she called she told me you were sleeping... then I was off to church and then straight to my show, and by the time I got home it was too late in Germany to call!

anyhow, glad you are home, and do your best to enjoy The Little Mister's first Christmas, and rest at the same time. ;)

  3. glad you are home and healing. It does get better. My GB (aka lucifer) came out three years ago. After a couple of days, I was sore but it was bearable and then after about 10 days I felt great. Hope this doesn't put too much of a damper on your first Christmas with Little Mister. Merry Christmas and here's hoping for a happy health New Year!

  4. Sorry to hear about your weekend. My husband went through that last spring, and it was NO FUN AT ALL.

I'm glad to hear you'll be enjoying Christmas at home, and not at the hospital.

As for Switzerland, if it would ease your pain, I would go in your place. I am a giver like that.

  5. Oh, girl! I'm so sorry!

Part of the surgery I just had two weeks ago involved taking out my gall bladder as a "precaution" so I can definitely sympathize! It's an odd pain but it definitely will get better. At about 8 days out I felt great and I'm now 12 days out and can throw around my 30 pound toddler like nothing happened, so there is hope!

Enjoy the fact that you HAVE to sit still and watch the little mister enjoy things instead of feeling like you have to be up and running around! Also, since I'm only about 45 minutes away, don't you dare be afraid to let me know if you need anything!

  6. Oh no!!! So sorry to hear about this, Mama! Gall bladder pain SUCKS! I had mine taken out a couple years ago... my attacks started not long after I got pregnant with twins (as a surrogate) and I couldn't eat anything with red meat or fat in it or I'd get severe aches in my stomach, but high ~ almost thought it was my heart a couple times ~ and ended up having the surgery to remove them, while about 18 weeks pregnant.

Anyway, hope you are feeling better soon... and glad you'll be home for Christmas!!

  8. Oh no! Bah-humbug! That is horrid. I'm so sorry.
At least you still made it home in time for the babe's first Christmas.
Hope you have a swift recovery, and a wonderful Christmas!

  12. Oh, my lord. I didn't realize you'd been in surgery. Hope you feel better now.

    Hugs, Heidi

PS: Love the picture of you and your dad!

  13. OK, I have no idea why I thought it was your dad...but I swear I thought I saw a caption...'dad'. Honestly! Please tell your poor, poor hubster that now that I've gone back and LOOKED at the picture, I can clearly see that there is no way he could be your dad. I am mortified. Hope he has a sense of humour?!?

  14. I laughed and laughed and laughed...although the Sergeant didn't think it was *quite* so funny.

The picture isn't me and my dad...it's me and my husband!!! ;)

  15. I am so sorry to hear you were so laid up. My mother had her gall bladder out shortly after I was born. She said those attacks could be mind numbing. I hope you have a much quieter new year! Peace!
